"Specimen" Size Variable
Materials: cardboard, paper, metal, leaves, acrylic paint, glue, found items. Dimensions: variable.
This work began as something beautiful, yet fleeting – a bird made from leaves which, over time decays and crumbles. Looking from the outside in the viewer first encounters a bird in motion, itself looking into another space. The viewer must change their position to view the other side of the box, perhaps expecting to see a beautiful bird’s head. The result is both bird and viewer are surprised – the beauty is not there but instead, another side of nature. Questions are raised about voyeurism, our own expectations, our perceptions, our reactions, and our sense of entitlement.
